"My new habit is to pick up 1 piece of rubbish

per day  for the rest of my life"

August 2015 Edmund Platt from Leeds posted a photo on Instagram and Facebook that changed his life forever.

In Roundhay Park, a can of soda in hand, he said: "My new habit is to pick up 1 piece of rubbish a day for the rest of my life."

Since then, 22,000 photos worldwide have been posted with the hashtag #1PieceOfRubbish and the French equivalent #1dechetparjour with over 11,000 photos.

With two friends from Marseille, the Yorkshireman launched the association "1 Piece Of Rubbish - 1 Déchet Par Jour" and the team have visited more than 110 schools to talk about plastic pollution and collected more than 32 tons of waste.

Eddie and the association have appeared in more than 900 French and international articles, press, TV, Radio, Instagram, Facebook and TIKTOK posts.

In 2017, he hitchhiked 8000 kilometers around France to collect rubbish, go to schools and campsites to carry out collective cleanings. The English Snail was picked up by 150 drivers and he slept in 49 different places, either in his hammock or in strangers homes. "Committed, Inspiring, Crazy and Determined" "Punk, Fun, Totally BRITISH, a crazy Englishman who loves France, not to be missed" 2400 copies of his bombastic book The Englishman who wanted to clean up France have already sold.

In 2020, he traveled 800 km from Marseille to Paris with photojournalist friend Frédéric Munsch collecting 6,300 masks. Horrified by the amount of masks left in car parks, in front of offices, pubs, schools, in cities, towns and the countryside, the two crazy beasts went on a mission to raise awareness on social networks, in the streets and in 250 French and international articles.

BOOK - THE ENGLISH WHO WANTED TO CLEAN FRANCE

In 2017, Edmund Platt, aka the English Snail, embarked on an 8,000 kilometer tour of France by hitchhiking to pick up the waste that 1 in 3 French people throw out of their car every day.

Determined to denounce loud and clear the problem of waste and its disastrous impact on the planet, just like that of the plastic which suffocates our oceans and our failing consumer society, Eddie delivers a message that is honest, fair, extremely powerful and full of inconvenient truths. .

Highly anticipated by the media and fans, his first book details the essentials of his journey on the roads of the country of frogs' legs and aperitifs. Alone with his backpack, his litter picker & insatiable thirst for beer, The English Snail traveled around France for three months. His story will change your way of seeing life, and perhaps even your priorities. Time is not money. It's much more valuable than that, for God's sake!

This book is a human adventure, a roller coaster full of twists and turn that anyone can relate to.

Rich in spontaneity, fun and revealing, The Englishman Who Wanted to Clean Up France is the ultimate slap and whiplash we all need in these contagious time.
